Supermoto Round #2

What a weekend.  Very dynamic weather AND racing conditions.  All-in-all... a great weekend.

After the last race weekend... I was seriously disappointed in both myself and racing in general.... mainly myself.  I had such a poor showing in the last race and I was completely disheartened by the "Mainly Dirt" supermoto track.  This weekend was quite the opposite of that....... but, like usual, filled with its own series of challenges.

More crashing:  Yes, I crashed in both of my qualifiers again.  But, I was able to finish the heats and knew it would be a long hike from the back of the gridlines.

In between motos... my buddy Jordan crashed-out and shattered his collar bone.  He was in a good bit of pain, but the on-site EMS was stabilizing the situation within' seconds of the accident.  I took him to the Emergency Room after the round ended.... much cheaper than an ambulance.  Though... the airlift would have been pretty epic.  (Update:  he's fine.)

Back to racing.  Like I mentioned, I'm getting pretty comfortable starting from the back of the grid.  I know the smell of everyone's fuel mixture... who's on race gas... who's on pump.  I know what everyone's numbers are.... they are printed in bold on the back of their jerseys.  And, I know what brand of rear tire everyone is running.

OK... I knew I had to save some face.  I promised myself before we went into the points races:  "NO CRASHING, DOUGAN".  And, believe it or not.... I didn't crash in the final two point races..!!

So, I race 450 and Open Unlimited.  450 is where the real hot shots are.... really... the riders here are f*%#ing fast.  Starting from the back of the grid, I managed to gain several places and I finished with an 8th place of 13.  I'm pretty happy about this.

Now... Open Unlimited is pretty well defined -- "Open... and A LOT of racers".  This grid, is 23 racers deep... which is a TON of guys to have on the track at the same time.  Again... I started from the very back because of qualifying.  Some how.... Some way..... I fought through the pack and managed to get 6th place out of 23.  I'm pretty happy about this too.

Anyways.... between some rain showers.... some crashes.... and a trip to the hospital........ there is certainly nothing boring about this sport.  I really love it.

Last Week

I took some time off from the blog because last week was so hectic.  I built this presentation called "Asia Rising".  If you didn't catch the webcast, it was basically about the Asian markets and how they are booming and how they have 'unsuspectingly' snuck-up on the western markets.  We presented on Thursday, and I was happy to have it out of the way.

Hit the track this weekend.  It was a blast.

Also... there will be further housing news on the horizon.  ;-)
